Ingredients
Scale
Steak Marinade
- 1 pound beef sirloin steak or beef tenderloin
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Gnocchi and Finishing
- 2 pounds dried packaged gnocchi
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 cloves minced garlic
- 1/4 cup freshly grated parmesan cheese (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the Steak: Dice the steak into bite-sized pieces, trimming off any excess fat or sinew. Place the steak bites into a gallon-sized resealable plastic bag or a shallow bowl for marinating.
- Marinate the Steak: Add lemon juice, olive oil, Worcestershire sauce, apple cider vinegar, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper to the steak. Toss to coat well, cover or seal, and refrigerate to marinate for 1 hour up to 8 hours.
- Cook the Gnocchi: Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Cook the gnocchi according to package directions until they float to the surface. Drain well and set aside.
- Sear the Steak Bites: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Using tongs, add half of the steak bites to the skillet, leaving most of the marinade behind to avoid steaming the meat. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the steak pieces are well-seared and browned. Remove cooked steak from the skillet and set aside. Repeat with the remaining steak bites, cooking in batches to prevent crowding.
- Add Garlic and Butter: Return all cooked steak bites to the skillet. Add butter and minced garlic, letting the garlic toast for about 1 minute until fragrant.
- Sauté Gnocchi with Steak: Add the cooked gnocchi to the skillet with the steak and garlic butter. Sauté together for 3 to 5 minutes, stirring occasionally until the gnocchi are lightly browned and heated through.
- Serve and Garnish: Serve the steak bites and gnocchi hot. Sprinkle with freshly grated Parmesan cheese if desired for extra flavor.
Notes
- For a more tender steak, marinate for at least 1 hour but not more than 8 hours to avoid toughening the meat.
- If you prefer, substitute sirloin with tenderloin for an even more tender bite.
- Use packaged gnocchi for convenience, but fresh gnocchi can be used if preferred.
- Be sure not to overcrowd the skillet when searing steak bites to ensure proper browning instead of steaming.
- Parmesan cheese is optional but adds a nice sharp, nutty flavor to finish the dish.
- If you want a spicier kick, add a pinch of red pepper flakes when adding garlic and butter.
