Description

This Slow Cooker Honey BBQ Beef Brisket is a tender and flavorful main course perfect for a comforting meal. The brisket is seasoned with garlic and chili powders, slow-cooked in a sweet and tangy honey BBQ sauce made from ketchup, molasses, honey, and spices. The sauce is thickened on the stovetop to create a rich glaze that perfectly complements the shredded beef.

Ingredients

Scale

Beef Brisket and Seasoning

  • 1 medium-large beef brisket (about 5 pounds)
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons chili powder
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

Honey BBQ Sauce

  • ½ cup ketchup
  • ½ cup molasses
  • 4 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ⅓ cup apple cider vinegar

Thickening Agent

  • 2 tablespoons cold water
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Slow Cooker: Lightly grease your slow cooker to prevent sticking and place the beef brisket inside.
  2. Make the Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together ketchup, molasses, honey, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, and apple cider vinegar. Set aside.
  3. Season the Brisket: Mix garlic powder, chili powder, salt, and black pepper together and rub all over the brisket evenly.
  4. Cook the Brisket: Pour the prepared honey BBQ sauce over the brisket in the slow cooker. Cover and cook on low for 10 hours until the meat is tender.
  5. Thicken the Sauce: Remove the liquid from the slow cooker and pour into a large saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Stir together cold water and cornstarch until dissolved, then slowly add to the boiling sauce. Reduce heat to medium-low and stir continuously until the sauce thickens. Remove from heat.
  6. Shred and Serve: Shred the beef brisket using two forks. Return the shredded beef to the slow cooker and pour the thickened sauce over it. Stir well and serve hot.

Notes

  • The sauce can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator until ready to use to save prep time.
  • For best flavor, allow the brisket to rest for 10-15 minutes after cooking before shredding.
  • Use a slow cooker liner for easy cleanup.
  • Serve with classic BBQ sides like coleslaw, baked beans, or cornbread for a complete meal.
