Description

Lasagna Garlic Bread is a delicious, cheesy twist on classic garlic bread with a savory ground beef marinara topping and a blend of mozzarella and cheddar cheeses. Perfect as a hearty appetizer or side dish, this recipe combines the flavors of lasagna in an easy-to-make garlic bread loaf.

Ingredients

Units Scale

Bread

  • 1 loaf Italian bread
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick / 113 g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup (50 g) parmesan cheese, grated
  • 1 teaspoon garlic salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 pound ground beef
  • 2 cups (514 g) marinara sauce, divided

Topping

  • 1 cup (113 g) mozzarella cheese, shredded, divided
  • 1 cup (113 g) sharp cheddar, shredded, divided
  • parsley, chopped for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven. Preheat your oven to 350°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set it aside to prepare the bread.
  2. Prepare the bread. Slice the Italian bread lengthwise into two halves and place them cut-side up on the prepared baking sheet.
  3. Make the garlic butter spread. In a small bowl, mix the softened butter with grated parmesan cheese, garlic salt, and Italian seasoning until well combined. Spread this mixture evenly over the cut sides of the bread. Set aside while you cook the beef mixture.
  4. Cook the ground beef. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef, breaking it up with a spatula, for about 7 minutes or until fully browned. Drain any excess grease to keep it from being oily.
  5. Add marinara sauce. Lower the heat to low and stir in 1 cup of the marinara sauce into the cooked beef. Let it simmer for 2-3 minutes until heated through, then remove from heat.
  6. Assemble the bread. Spoon half of the beef and marinara mixture evenly over each bread half. Sprinkle ½ cup of shredded mozzarella and ½ cup of shredded sharp cheddar over each half.
  7. Bake the garlic bread. Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake for 14 minutes, or until the bread is toasted and the cheese melted.
  8. Broil for a golden finish. Switch the oven to broil and broil the bread for 3 minutes while watching carefully, until the cheese is golden brown and bubbly.
  9. Garnish and serve. Remove from the oven, garnish with freshly chopped parsley, cut into servings, and serve immediately with the remaining marinara sauce for dipping.

Notes

  • You can use an air fryer instead of the oven: after assembling, place the bread halves in the air fryer basket and air fry at 350°F for 5 minutes or until cheese is golden and melted.
  • Feel free to substitute ground beef with ground turkey or a plant-based ground meat alternative for a leaner version.
  • Use fresh garlic minced instead of garlic salt for a more aromatic garlic flavor, but adjust the salt accordingly.
  • If you prefer a spicier kick, add red pepper flakes to the marinara sauce during simmering.
  • Leftover marinara sauce can be warmed and used as a dip or a pasta sauce for another meal.
