Description

This decadent Brownie Trifle is a luscious layered dessert combining fudgy homemade brownies, creamy chocolate pudding, and fluffy whipped cream, finished with chocolate shavings for an elegant touch. Perfect for special occasions or a rich treat for family and friends.

Ingredients

Scale

Brownies

  • 2 packages NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® Brownies & More Chocolate Baking Mix with Semi-Sweet Chocolate Morsels
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 6 tablespoons water
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate morsels (divided as 2/3 cup and 1/3 cup)

Chocolate Pudding

  • 2 (3.9-ounce) packages instant chocolate fudge pudding mix
  • 4 cups cold milk

Whipped Cream

  • 4 cups heavy cream, very cold
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • Chocolate shavings to garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Brownies. Preheat your oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit and spray two 8-inch-square baking pans with cooking spray to prevent sticking. In a large bowl, stir together the brownie mix, eggs, vegetable oil, and water until well blended. Fold in 2/3 cup of the semi-sweet chocolate morsels. Spread the batter evenly into the prepared pans.
  2. Bake the Brownies. Bake the brownies for 10 minutes, then remove from the oven carefully and sprinkle the remaining 1/3 cup of morsels evenly on top of the batter. Return to the oven and bake for an additional 25 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted near the center comes out clean. Allow the brownies to cool completely on a wire rack before cutting into small squares.
  3. Make the Chocolate Pudding. In a large bowl, pour in 4 cups of cold milk. Add the instant chocolate fudge pudding mix and beat with a whisk or electric mixer for 2 to 5 minutes until the pudding sets. Refrigerate until ready to assemble the trifle.
  4. Whip the Cream. In a mixing bowl, combine the very cold heavy cream, sugar, and vanilla extract. Whisk or beat with a stand mixer until stiff peaks form. Set aside the whipped cream for assembling.
  5. Assemble the Brownie Trifle. In a large dessert bowl, start with a layer of brownie squares, followed by a layer of whipped cream, and then a layer of chocolate pudding. Repeat these layers once more, finishing off with a final layer of whipped cream. Garnish the top with chocolate shavings.
  6. Serve or Store. Serve the brownie trifle immediately or cover and store it in the refrigerator until ready to serve. It can also be prepared a day ahead for convenience.

Notes

  • This dessert can be adapted for various bowl sizes or individual servings by layering brownies, whipped cream, and pudding accordingly.
  • You can prepare the trifle a day in advance and keep it refrigerated to enhance the flavors and save time on serving day.
  • Use very cold heavy cream to achieve the best whipped cream texture.
  • For a richer chocolate flavor, consider adding a drizzle of chocolate syrup between layers.
  • Substitute vegetable oil with melted butter for a different richness in the brownies.
