Description

A festive and colorful Christmas Trifle Dessert featuring layers of red velvet and green-tinted white cake combined with a creamy cream cheese and whipped topping mixture, perfect for holiday celebrations.

Ingredients

Scale

Cake Mixes

  • 1 white box cake mix (prepared according to box directions)
  • 1 red velvet box cake mix (prepared according to box directions)
  • Green food coloring (10 drops)

Cream Mixture

  • 8 ounces cream cheese (softened)
  • 14 ounces sweetened condensed milk
  • 8 ounce tub whipped topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit to prepare for baking the cakes.
  2. Prepare Cakes: Prepare both the white and red velvet cake mixes according to the box directions. Add 10 drops of green food coloring to the white cake batter to create a green layer.
  3. Bake Cakes: Grease two 9×13 cake pans and divide the batter accordingly. Bake cakes for 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Allow them to cool completely.
  4. Make Cream Layer: In a medium bowl, thoroughly mix together the softened cream cheese, sweetened condensed milk, and whipped topping until smooth and well combined.
  5. Crumble Cakes: Crumble each cooled cake into large crumbs, reserving ¼ cup from each color for topping the trifle dessert.
  6. Assemble Trifle: In a clear glass container, alternate layers of red velvet and green white cake crumbs with the cream mixture to create a layered effect. Finish by sprinkling the reserved cake crumbs on top.

Notes

  • You can use homemade cake mixes if preferred over boxed mixes.
  • Using a clear glass container enhances the visual appeal of the layered trifle.
  • For red velvet cake layers, berries make a delightful accompaniment, while fruits like oranges or kiwis complement the white cake layers nicely.
